Green Tree Landscape and Maintenance does wood fence installation on the south and west side of the Portland metro. We build cedar privacy fences with vertical boards or horizontal slats, plus the gates that go with them. We also do fence repair and replace rotted posts.
We are a landscaping company in Tualatin, so a new fence can be planned with the rest of the yard. On a sloped lot, the fence and a block retaining wall can be one job. Call or text (971) 772-9892, and we look at the yard and put the quote in writing.

Vertical-board fences are the classic backyard privacy fence. The boards stand side by side on rails that run between the posts. Horizontal-slat fences turn the boards sideways for a clean, modern line. We build both styles in cedar, and the cedar fences in our photos show each one.
A USDA Forest Products Laboratory fence guide lists cedar heartwood, the core of the log, as resistant to decay. Portland's fence rules accept cedar for any fence wood within six inches of the ground.
Left bare, cedar weathers to gray over time. A gate can match either style, sized for foot traffic or for a mower.
City rules set how tall a fence can be and where it can sit. Several cities here allow a taller fence in the backyard than out front. Covenants in your deed may add their own limits on fence style and size.
West Linn allows 3 feet in the front yard and 6 feet along the back line. Lake Oswego caps fences at 6 feet, or 4 feet within 10 feet of a street. In many Portland zones, a fence in the front setback stops at 3.5 feet. Side and rear setbacks there allow up to 8 feet.
Tualatin needs no city permit for a home fence up to 7 feet. The fence must stay out of the public right-of-way and the vision clearance area at intersections. Clean Water Services, Washington County's stormwater and sewer agency, says adding a fence calls for its review. The permit question is settled before work starts.
When a fence leans, the posts are the first place to look. A USDA Forest Products Laboratory fence guide calls the post the critical link in a fence. It says decay is worst at the ground line, where moisture from the soil meets air.
How a post is set matters too. The same guide advises keeping any concrete at least 6 inches below the ground line. A collar that reaches the surface holds water against the wood. In clay soil, a hole backfilled with crushed rock can hold water around the base of the post.
If the rails and boards are still sound, new posts can carry the old fence again. If water stands along the fence line through the wet season, a French drain along the fence can move it away from the posts.

Call or text (971) 772-9892 and tell us about the yard and where it is. Send photos if you like.
We come out to see the yard and where the water runs. For the maintenance program, we look over the lawn and the beds.
You get the quote in writing, with the work spelled out. Once you say yes, we set a start date, and work days follow the weather.
Then the work starts, whether that is an install, a build or your first maintenance visit. On a new landscape, the soil is prepped and graded before anything goes in the ground.
We take a final look at the work with you, and the site is cleaned up. Then we go over what comes next, like watering new sod or the date of the next visit.

Learn MoreNew plantings, lawns, paver patios, retaining walls and drainage all come from one company. We can keep up the yard we build on our maintenance program.
Our landscape maintenance program runs all year at a flat monthly rate. The rate stays level through the quiet winter months and the busy leaf season.
The base under a paver patio is compacted in layers before the first paver goes down. Retaining walls get drainage gravel and pipe behind them. We install the backflow assembly the code requires on every new sprinkler system.

Carlos and team did a great job on our new paver patio and pathway. Communication was excellent and responses were quick. He shared examples of options and asked questions along the way to make sure we were getting what we wanted. We'll use them again for future projects without hesitation.
We had a great experience working with Carlos and his team. Carlos was professional, reliable, and easy to communicate with throughout the entire project. His pricing was very reasonable, and I really appreciated his attention to detail. He took the time to make sure the grading and sod installation were done correctly rather than rushing through the job. It’s clear Carlos takes pride in his work and cares about doing things well. We would absolutely hire him again and highly recommend him to anyone looking for landscaping or yard work.
He was very good. Review our system and did an upgrade. Checked all sprayer heads and adjusted as needed. He was very professional and efficient. Great job. Would recommend he to anyone who has a sprinkler issue.
